The effects of hypertension and sleep disorders on risk of dementia Lead Investigator: Cheryl Lim Institution : Nanyang Technological University E-Mail : CLIM096@e.ntu.edu.sg Proposal ID : 1522 Proposal Description: Hypertension and sleep disorders such as sleep apnea have been previously shown to be associated with an increased risk for dementia. However, the interactive and mediating effects of these two variables in combination on cognitive decline and progression to dementia have not been examined. Here we aim to investigate 1) whether the relationship between hypertension and longitudinal cognitive decline is moderated or mediated by the presence of sleep disorders and 2) whether the use of antihypertensives moderates the relationship between hypertension and sleep disorders on longitudinal cognitive decline and progression to dementia.
